Rebel Mountain Press

Founded in 2015 by Lori Shwydky and Cheryl Ann Kelly, Rebel Mountain Press is a small, independently owned Canadian book publisher of children's and young adult literature, anthologies, and poetry that feature characters and authors who are BIPOC, LGBTQ2IA+, and/or have disabilities.
We are interested in publishing graphic novels for children or young adults. We would also consider submissions of adult fiction or creative non-fiction with protagonists who are BIPOC, LGBTQ2IA+, and/or have disabilities, from authors who identify similarly.
Currently, we publish 2-4 titles per year. Rebel welcomes new and emerging Canadian writers, as well as more established Canadian authors. We encourage submissions from authors who are BIPOC, LGBTQ2IA+, identify as Disabled, or are from other marginalized groups.
*Note: we only publish Canadian authors who currently reside in Canada.
Our four main core values are: Diversity, Equality, Tolerance, and Female Empowerment. Our goal is to give a voice to Canadian authors who might not otherwise be heard, such as those from the LGBTQ2+ community, authors of Indigenous descent, BIPOC, or those from other marginalized groups. Our aim is to create books that are insightful and promote human and animal rights, greater social awareness, tolerance, and diversity—books that create positive change.
We strive to publish books that will make a strong artistic and cultural contribution to Canadian literature—to illuminate the experiences of Canadians of all ages, abilities, ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations, giving readers the perspectives and insights necessary to empathize with and understand others from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
